Camping in Utah

Camping in Utah is a great adventure. There are over 7,000 campsites with a variety of RV, trailer, and tent camping. There aren’t too many other states in the U.S. that can compete with what Utah has to offer.

There is camping in about every kind of terrain. For example, there is mountain camping in the Uintah highlands, desert camping in Southern red rock country, boat camping at Lake Powell or other lakes, primitive camping in several wilderness areas, or amenity camping at one of the national parks.

Since there are so many locations to choose from, it may seem a little difficult to choose the right spot for you. The best way to help narrow down locations is to determine what you would like to do while you are camping in Utah.

Some of the activities that you can enjoy include fishing, hiking, mountain biking, boating, rafting, bird watching, etc.

National Parks will normally give you some better options for hiking. Some camp areas may include a range of activities to choose from.

Make sure you check before you pack your bags if you need to make a reservation. Many of them require you to and/or have a permit to camp. You may also want to check how long you can stay. Each camp is different, so just make sure you ask.

If you are a camper that doesn’t just like to rough it, you may want to check and see what amenities are offered. The amenities offered will be different at each campground.

Some of the amenities offered can include barbeque grills, picnic tables, drinking water, toilets, showers, laundry facilities, RV hookups, etc. Or if you just like to camp with a simple fire pit that is also available. Make sure you are aware of locations that don’t allow open pit fires.

Camping in Utah can be a wonderful experience for you and your family. If you know what kind of activities that you want to do and what amenities you desire, you will be able to narrow down the numerous campsite possibilities.

The Regional Campground Directory is also a great resource to help you see what amenities are available at each campground.
